On Tuesday 23 June, St Thomas More Catholic Primary School celebrated our 75th Anniversary, and what a celebration it was!

It was a truly special occasion, bringing together past, present and future members of our community in joy and gratitude.

The school's story began on the 8 January 1951, when the very first pupils were welcomed into a temporary Church hall. From those humble beginnings, our school has grown into a thriving community we see today. We must never forget that without our wonderful Parish and that deep-rooted connection, our school would not be here today. We were born from the faith, vision and commitment of our Parish community, and that relationship continues to shape and sustain us.

The celebratory Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Longley, was a truly special occasion and the children were a real credit: they were beautifully behaved, sang joyfully and participated so well in the Mass. We are so very proud of every one of them.

A BIG thank you to our Parish Priest, Father Simon, whose support to the school is invaluable. From our hymn practices to class Masses to Sacramental preparation, Father Simon has supported the children and our school in faith.

During the Mass a large set of new Bibles were blessed. These are a gift from the Parish to celebrate the school's 75th Anniversary and we look forward to using them. Small pin badges to commemorate the school's anniversary were also blessed and will be given as a gift to every children from the PTFA.

Following the Mass and a procession to the school grounds, for a Blessing with the relic of St Thomas More, it was lovely to see many families join us as we shared a community picnic. Despite the hot weather, families joined as a school community to celebrate this momentous occasion. Our STM Festival was a resounding success and it was delightful to see our community joining together and celebrating the summer.

Our children had a wonderful time and a big well done to our Year 5 & 6 children for their entrepreneurial skills in running their own stalls.

It truly was  wonderful celebration of our school’s rich history and vibrant community, and we now look forward with great excitement to marking our centenary in 2051!
