Latest News Coventry schoolchildren raise hundreds for local hospital Children at a Coventry school have raised hundreds of pounds as part of a global campaign to increase awareness around diabetes and its impact on wellbeing. Coventry children Myla, 10, and Max, 5, have helped St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, part of the Romero Catholic Academy, raise £406.52 for the diabetes services at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire. Myla, who was recently diagnosed with diabetes, said it was important for people to learn about the condition and how it can affect people of all ages. The school on Harry Rose Road, just a few minutes from the hospital, held a week-long fundraiser culminating in a pyjama day to mark World Diabetes Day earlier this month. The worldwide campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation, is aiming to raise awareness about the physical and mental challenges of diabetes while prioritising good wellbeing. The federation estimates over 500 million people worldwide are living with diabetes, with half of all cases undiagnosed. Megan Scullion, principal at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, said: “The support from staff, parents and the school community has been fantastic and we are thrilled with the amount Myla, Max and everyone involved has been able to raise. “Awareness around diabetes is so important in enabling access to the right treatment and support, as well as promoting good health and wellbeing, and we’d like to thank all those who donated.” Caption: Children and staff at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School held a pyjama day to mark World Diabetes Day.
