Latest News ‘Carlo Acutis is very inspiring to my generation’ “It feels nice to know the guy I picked for my confirmation is living on in heaven and turning people good again.” That’s the view of 11-year-old Rupert, who together with his family attends Our Lady of the Wayside in Shirley. Rupert took Carlo Acutis’ name at his recent confirmation in June (pictured with Archbishop Bernard Longley), and is full of admiration for the young man, who will be canonised this Sunday, 7 September. Rupert is a member of the Carlo Acutis Youth Group, which meets every Friday during term-time. His Mum, Hayley, is one of the youth group leaders. “I joined the youth group as I was inspired by Carlo’s story and wanted to feel more with God,” said Rupert. “It is a good experience to have more connection with other people and with God. “Carlo is a modern saint, not in the past. He never knew Jesus but he carries on Jesus' story. He took faith and raised it to the next level. He inspires people to be with God more. “He is very inspiring to my generation. Someone who has been with us, has passed, helped tonnes of people, is now up in heaven as a saint. It shows anyone can make a difference, even if they are young.” Rupert, together with his family (below), will be watching the Canonisation from Rome this Sunday.
