Birmingham Diocesan Education Service

Forming Christ-centred pilgrims of hope with kind hearts, questioning minds, a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for justice.

Our people are at the heart of our mission. In our Catholic schools and CMATs, we recognise that it is in communion with one another, not in isolation, that we flourish (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:12–27). Every teacher, leader, and member of staff -whether in the classroom, central services, or support roles - is called to contribute their God-given gifts to build up a Christ-centred community. We seek to form an Apostolic Core: a flourishing, high-performing workforce that embodies the Gospel values of service, hope, justice, and love. This means creating a culture of belonging, safety, and trust; protecting the Catholic ethos; investing in professional development and faith formation; and enabling every member of staff to grow in both skill and vocation. We honour the dignity of the human person by prioritising wellbeing, promoting inclusion, encouraging collaboration, and ensuring that career progression is open to all. In this way, our workforce becomes a living witness—serving our pupils, strengthening the Church’s mission in education, and making Catholic schools places where staff love to work, learn, and lead.

"Do your best to live at peace with everyone, and encourage one another and build each other up" (Romans 12:18, 1 Thessalonians 5:11).
